INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES FOR TEACHING A FOREIGN 
LANGUAGE FOR STUDENTS OF NON-LINGUISTIC UNIVERSITIES 
Abstract: the article deals with the actual problem of possible use of information and 
communication technologies in the process of teaching students a foreign language in 
non-linguistic universities. The authors reveal the concept of mobile study and consider 
its advantages in teaching foreign languages. The article provides a brief overview of 
educational applications and programs, new technologies that expand the possibilities 
and quality of education especially during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. It is also 
emphasized that using of Internet resources, innovative technologies and mobile 
applications in the learning process contributes not only to the enrichment of the 
educational process itself, but also to the acquisition of skills and abilities by students, 
helps to develop all the necessary competencies in students of our time.

Currently, global computerization has embraced all spheres of human activity, 
including science and education. The development of the Internet and the emergence 
of many computer programs that simplify the learning process have greatly changed 
the study of foreign languages, making it faster and easier to work with authentic 
sources. During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and the global lockdown, when schools 
and universities are quarantined everywhere, computer curricula have a number of

advantages over traditional teaching methods [1], being, first of all, means of direct 
audio-visual interactive interaction. Their use during lessons together with traditional 
teaching methods allows you to train various types of speech activity, understand the 
nature of linguistic phenomena, form linguistic abilities, create communicative 
situations, bring linguistic and speech skills to automatism and ensure the 
implementation of an individual approach and intensify the student’s independent 
work, and also helps to increase cognitive activity, motivation and quality of 
knowledge of students. 
Foreign language education is becoming one of the basic components in the 
structure of the competence-based model of a future specialist training. In this regard, 
the role of a foreign language in the training of students, in which a foreign language 
course is of a communicative-pragmatic and professionally oriented nature is 
significantly increasing. Currently, higher education is faced with the task of not only 
modernizing the content of educational courses, but also introducing new technologies 
for the formation of foreign language communicative competence of future 
specialists. [2] 
Analysis of the latest research in the field of innovations in teaching foreign 
languages showed [3] that one of the topical areas is the introduction of modern 
information and communication technologies into the educational process, in particular 
technologies related to mobile learning, which ensure the optimization of the 
educational process, the accessibility and effectiveness of learning, the integration of 
students to the information society. This is expressed, in particular, in the gradual 
introduction of applications for mobile phones based on various platforms: Android, 
iOS, etc. into the learning process. The use of tablet computers, smartphones, mobile 
phones, iPad, IPhone and other technological innovations for educational purposes has 
led to the formation of a new direction – mobile learning of a foreign language (M-
Learning) within the framework of the concept of electronic learning (e-Learning).
Many scientists and educators are confident that the future of education with the 
support of information and computer technologies is associated with the spread of

mobile communications, the emergence of a large number of educational applications 
and programs, new technologies that expand the possibilities and quality of education 
especially during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. 
Mobile learning today is a new, developing direction in education, a distinctive 
feature of which is the creation of a new learning environment. Due to the prevalence 
of mobile technologies and the constant growth of the functionality of mobile devices, 
UNESCO education experts suggest using their potential to improve the quality and 
accessibility of education, as well as to build an individual learning path [8]. The theory 
and practice of using mobile devices and mobile educational resources is actively 
discussed at scientific conferences and forums. Since 2002, a number of conferences 
and seminars have been held annually in Europe and the United States to discuss the 
use of mobile educational technologies or resources. Since 2002, the International 
Conference "MLearnCon" has been held on the problems of integrating mobile 
technologies into teaching, creating and using educational mobile content [4].
