Assessing
learning in the online environment definitely has it rewards as 
immediate feedback can be provided to students and they will have the opportunity to 
see assessment as a fun part of the learning process rather than a stressful routine to be 
feared. With the use of digital assessment tools that provide enhanced ways of adaptive 
and progressive assessing rather than the generic question answer format, learners will 
definitely be running to the assessment ‘room’. Some current assessment tools and 
platforms include: exam.net, google forms, E-portfolios (offline/online), and 
gamification tools such as Kahoot, Quizizz and Quizlet. Learners may also do 
collaborative work remotely for formative or summative assessment. 
The importance of 
communication
in all spheres of life cannot be overemphasized. It is 
a crucial part of the teaching/learning process and should be enhanced even the more, 
through the use modern digital technologies. Conveying messages and eliciting 
responses should be prompt and done mainly in ‘real-time.’ The latest method of 
‘telegramming’ is now done via an app as opposed to written material transmitted on 
paper and delivered perhaps in days. The use of the Telegram app, Google Hangouts, 
WhatsApp, emailing and classroom messaging are some means of communicating with 
students. The main advantage of utilizing these digital tools is that the limitation of 
being in a physical space to relay information is eliminated.
The digital world should not be explored without careful consideration being 
given to data 
security 
and integrity and, the digital learning environment is no 
exception. Each individual utilizing the digital learning environment must be 
knowledgeable of some programs and tools that can render their use of digital 
technologies safer. Such tools include: Firewalls, Virtual Private Networks, Password 
protection, etc. Instructors may utilize computer monitoring software as well as monitor 
browser history of learners. 
Notwithstanding the many benefits of digital pedagogy, there are also issues that 
must be examined. Issues in this area include: people’s fear of changing, digital

illiteracy, the need for training, access to technological resources, unethical practices, 
cybercrime, privacy and data security as well as injury and illnesses. In identifying these 
issues, the aim must be mitigation. Ways to mitigate against these issues include: 
embracing this era of technology, implementation of ongoing technological training, 
utilizing various security tools, establishing partnership between government and 
educational bodies, becoming familiar with the legislations governing the 
implementation and use of digital technology, educating all stakeholders about best 
practices in the digital environment and taking regular breaks from using computing 
devices as well as the usage of ergonomic equipment.
The significance of exploring the trends and issues in digital pedagogy is quite 
obvious. The rapid development and widespread implementation of information and 
telecommunication technologies has enabled to the emergence of new trends in the 
educational system throughout the world. Consequently, such a pace of progress 
requires educational institutions to gradually update their information support, technical 
support and software programs, as well as, have free access to the world`s educational 
and scientific information resources, and introduce new forms, tools and teaching 
methods.
Furthermore, new forms of education are developing as the Internet develops. 
For example, e-education: more than a quarter of a century ago, it began using CDs, 
having come to this day, due to the large-scale popularization of Internet technologies, 
it penetrates almost every home remotely through mobile applications, social networks 
and instant messengers. All this was facilitated by the obvious distinctive convenience 
and advantages of e-education from traditional types of education and, of course, the 
growing information needs of mankind.
