1-- Please summarize your reflections on the question: “Is teaching for transformative learning possible and desirable?” In answering this question, include (a) your working definition of “transformative learning;” and (b) cite readings (with page numbers) and video sources for the rationale and explanations.

“Learning is about transformation, it's about change, it's about seeing yourself in relation to the world differently,” (Apte, 2003, pg. 168) The goal of Transformational Education is therefore for learners to be empowered to challenge and change the status quo by imparting a new ethical way of seeing the world. In order to reach this goal, it is essential that a student learn to articulate and reflect on his or her own values, beliefs, and goals, and not blindly follow the values and norms of others. Transformative learning helps an individual become more independent in thinking. The only way to achieve this is for him to formulate and critically reflect on his own values, beliefs, and goals, rather than acting according to the value orientations imposed by others. It is based on my perception of this topic which is reflected specifically in the conclusion.

2-- Transformative learning may not happen (or be completed) during your teaching module. How will you know that your teaching for transformative learning is relevant / meaningful to your students? Include your own reflections, and citations from the course readings and videos.

Usually, transformative learning takes place in adult education. The goal of a rational epistemology of adult learning may prevent adult education from becoming, like religion, prejudice, and politics, a justification for interest to make it seem like a cause. Transformative learning is fundamentally a metacognitive process that involves reexamining the basis for our poor meaning orientation, including its foundations in cultural contexts like ideology, religion, political views, class, race, and gender, among others. In other words, the process by which adults learn to think objectively for themselves instead of assuming assumptions that support their views. I believe educating them to think critically leads to reasonable results. When I see my students being able to analyze the dilemmas can move forward, this is for what I am trying.
