FRONT OFFICE SEMANTICS Host hotel: Property that serves as the headquarters for a group when multiple hotels must be used to
house all group members.
Group Cutoffs A blocked room is not a sold room until it is assigned to an individual guest. Often,
a group’s block is much larger than the number of rooms the group will actually use.
For most group customers, the prospect of not having enough guestrooms available
for the group is so unpleasant that meeting planners overestimate need to ensure that
the hotel “holds” (blocks) more rooms than they will actually need. Generally, the
number of times a group does not use all rooms in the original block exceeds the
number of times that a group’s actual pickup is in excess of the original estimate.
