12. Waiting and patience 
Is patience always a good characteristic? 
 
I do think patience is a fantastic characteristic because there will always be situations in life that 
you either have to wait for or that perhaps aren't going the way that you'd like, or you have to 
deal with people that are very challenging to deal with. And patience can help you in all of those 
situations. 
Compared to the past, are people less patient now? 
 
It's difficult to say whether we are more patient or less patient than in the past, and I think that 
it depends on the situation. So, I think, when it comes to things like customer service, the 
younger generation tends to be more patient because we understand what it's like to work in a 
customer service position and how difficult and challenging that can be. However, the older 
generation seems to have no patience for people and customer service because many of them 
haven't had to work in that type of environment.

Who behaves better when waiting a child or an adult? 
 
Typically, an adult will wait more patiently than a child. Children tend to have rather short 
attention spans, and they want to just go when they want to go. And adults can rationalize that 
it's okay that I have to wait for a few minutes, and while children don't necessarily have those 
abilities to rationalize yet. 
On what occasions do people usually have to wait? 
 
People often have to wait for public transportation, so if they're going to be taking a bus or 
training that might have to wait in the station for a little while. They might have to wait at an 
appointment because sometimes doctor's appointments run late, and they'll have to sit in the 
waiting room for quite a while. And they might also have to wait for news if they've interviewed 
for a job and wait to hear back whether or not they've gotten the job.
