Questionnaire
In the second type of data collection tool was questionnaire which had been used in the research and involves six parts including: personal information, strengths and weaknesses on English proficiency the language skills that doctors need most in their job, the situations where the doctors use English most, the doctors preferences regarding useful activities for learning English and the medical topics the doctors want most to learn in order to fulfill the needs analysis and design course work effectively. In all parts, doctors filled in the blanks. In the first part of the questionnaire, we gathered their personal data such as, age and gender. In the second part, they assessed their strength and weakness on English. In part three, they replied to multiple choice questions according to their language skill doctors need most in their job. In the fourth section, the circumstances were identified which they use English most like to give instructions or advice, to give some explanation to the patients, to write the patients admission forms and to explain drug instructions and laboratory test. Next part was analyzed about what kinds of activities would be effectively in ESP course. These include pair work, team work, whole class or out of the class and individual. The male doctor preferred working in group in order to improve his communicative language skills. The last part of the questionnaire, the medical topics the doctors employ in their occupation.
In the below five parts of questionnaire were showed. Firstly their age and gender (learner profile) equality and then language background were depicted. According to their age, more than 45% of employees in this hospital are under 45 years old. In gender, 70% of female work there. Secondly, in the given pie-chart, they need mostly to be improved their writing (10%). Their grammar, listening and reading skills showed the same percent (15%). On the other hand, the medics considered that their speaking and pronunciation were good. Moreover, according to the result of language skills named listening, speaking, reading and writing, they have come across some difficulties in writing ( all of them are 4,5). Their speaking was 5.5 band score totally.(In IELTS band score). Results of the third part of the questionnaire showed that, most of the participants preferred to learn how to give advice ( 30%) and give instructions (20%) and explain the patients mostly. In part four, the medics wanted to learn in a team work (40%) but they would rather work in whole class and out of the class at least. In the last part, we interested in which medical topics would be productive for their professional development. According to the result, they were eager to know medical treatment, medicines and patient care. (See Appendix II).
