SALVAREA MATERIALULUI DE ARHIVĂ FOLCLORICO-DIALECTOLOGICĂ
PRIVIND SOCIETĂȚILE PRE-INDUSTRIALE DIN BASARABIA
Summary
.
Saving the folk-dialectological archive material regarding the pre-industrial soci-
eties from Bessarabia.
This approach discusses the historical landmarks regarding the establishment
of the (unconventional) Folklore Archive of the Institute of Romanian Philology „Bogdan Petriceicu-
Hasdeu” and the evolution of the processes of documentation, conservation, safeguarding, research
and capitalization of collective memory stored in that entity. The premises and results obtained in
the various digitization projects / initiatives applied at the beginning of the current century aimed to
encourage and facilitate scientific research by identifying and optimizing measures to preserve archi-
val materials at risk of degradation. Referring to the current state of the intangible cultural heritage,
we identify two aspects. On the one hand, the historical factors that led to the „advanced economic
stagnation” of this geographical area have contributed to the preservation and continuous promotion
of traditional, pre-industrial ways of life in the twentieth century, revealing at the beginning of the
millennium a rich background of arguments regarding the customs and ethnofolkloric creations of
the rural communities not investigated so far. On the other hand, the modernization and evolution of
information technologies since the beginning of the 21st century have created premises and contexts
that have led, unfortunately, to the mutation or disappearance of many ethnosocial phenomena of
affirmation of traditional culture. Consequently, the two aspects incited numerous discussions on the
conservation and management of the intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Moldova both
in academia and in other cultural institutions, but which, due to political, historical, social, moral
conditions, etc., did not result in any concrete action. Thanks to programs for archiving endangered
materials, offered by international funds, many institutions holding collective memory have man-
aged to partially safeguard their collections of ethnofolkloric materials. The successful experiences
are also due to the fact that specialists in the field have understood that the possibilities of digital and
multimedia technologies are vast, and promoting and capitalizing on our intangible cultural heritage
in digital format on the web is an opportunity to increase visibility and cultural diversity of various
geocultural spaces. Moreover, the national treasury, which is in a permanent struggle for existence in
the world of great technological achievements, has a new chance to invigorate the attention of the lo-
cal public, and its digitization is the successful finality of measures of identification, documentation,
conservation, research, transmission, promotion, reconditioning and enhancement of ethnofolkloric
material recorded in the field.
