of Sustainable Development acquires the status of an integrating factor of education as
a whole, determines its strategic goal and leading directions, contributes to the
achievement of the ideal goal, the formation of a person with a certain internal freedom,
independence of his opinion, actions and activities, building his relations with the
environment based on an understanding of its integrity. Freedom within the framework
of environmental necessity is just such, according to N.M. Mamedov, there should be
a strategy for the development of the personality of a new civilization. It is these
qualities that society is called upon to form through educational systems. Hence the
strategic goal of environmental education is the upbringing of environmental
responsibility as a measure of human freedom in environmental conditions [1]. This
opinion is fully shared by other researchers. For example, V.A.Los emphasizes the
need to reorient education for sustainable development, which involves the formation
of a system of spiritual and professional attitudes of mankind, ensuring the
harmonization of the relationship between man, society and the environment [1].
Obviously, one of the main ways of harmonizing socio-environmental relations is to
restructure the consciousness of every inhabitant of the Earth, overcome the spiritual
crisis of a person in the context of the idea of sustainable development, and create
appropriate personal qualities. In this regard, the concept of “social and environmental
sustainability of the individual” is of particular interest to the problem. Recall that the
concepts of “sustainability personality variability” belong to one of the fundamental
categories of psychological and pedagogical sciences, which is the next prerequisite
for the study of the problem we are considering. We will reveal the essence of
“sustainability” in psychology. Thus, the Psychological and Pedagogical Dictionary
(1998) reveals sustainability in relation to educational needs that are experienced by an
individual throughout adulthood and which remain relevant regardless of changes in
any social situation. These include: the need for an in-depth understanding of the world,
the expansion of knowledge and skills in various types of activities, the growth of the
development of artistic culture. In this case, stability means safety over time,
constancy, independence from changing conditions [2]. It should be noted that the
category of personality sustainability is considered, first of all, in the context of
studying the development process, i.e. personality changes depending on various
factors. The work of many Russian psychologists is devoted to this process: Rubinstein
S.L., Leontyev A.N., Antsyferova L.I. and others. Specific aspects of the problem
relate to an individual lifestyle, characterized by relative stability (Loginova N.A.);
