RECYCLED WATER

Abstract. The article is devoted to the issues of corrosion control in recycled
systems operating on high - salinity water. Attention is paid to the corrosion resistance
of structural materials, in particular, ferrous metals used in recycling water supply
systems. The main factors that affect the rate of corrosion and the conditions that
determine the corrosion of equipment of circulating systems are given. The special
influence of carbonate deposits and microorganisms, as well as the influence of
temperature, flow rate and chemical composition on electrochemical corrosion was
noted.
Keywords. Corrosion, corrosion resistance, structural material, recycled water,
carbonate deposits, electrochemical corrosion, microbiological corrosion.
Much attention is paid to the issues of corrosion resistance of structural
materials in recycled cooling water both in domestic [1] and in foreign literature [3].
The main structural materials of recycled water supply systems are ferrous
metals. Individual parts of the equipment (shut-off equipment, pumps, heat exchangers,
etc.) are made of alloys based on non-ferrous metals: brass, bronze, titanium. This
explains the interest in the corrosive behavior of ferrous metals in circulating systems.
It should be said that this process is extremely complex, depending on a large number
of variables and their interactions [2]. The main factors influencing the corrosion rate
of metals in recycling water, are its chemical composition, salinity, amount of
dissolved gases, temperature, pH, fluid velocity, surface condition of the metal.
However, as G. V. Akimov notes, the corrosive aggressiveness of water probably also
depends on many unaccountable factors, including the presence of impurities in the
water that are not determined by conventional chemical analysis.
