According to the place of obstruction fore lingual consonants are divided into four groups:
1.dental consonants [θ, ð]
2.alveolar consonants [ t, d, n, l, s, z ]
3.palato-alveolar consonants [tʃ, ʤ, ӡ, ʃ]
4.post - alveolar consonants [ r ]
3. Pharyngeal consonant [ h ] is articulated in the pharynx.
III. According to the work of vocal cords we have voiced consonants [b, d, g, v, z, ð, m, n, ʤ, ӡ, ƞ] ] and voiceless consonants [ p, t, k, f, s, t, h, w, r, j, θ, tʃ, ʃ ].
According to the position of the soft palate the consonants are called nasal or oral.
Nasal consonants are: [ m, n, ng ]
Oral consonants are: [ p, b, t, d, k, g, f, v, s, z, t, d, h, w, j, l, r, θ, ð, tʃ, ʤ, ʃ, ӡ].
