International Level Crossing Awareness Day 
In the framework of the International Level Crossing Awareness Day on June 22, 2010 more 
than  40  countries,  including  Estonia,  Russian  Federation,  Germany,  Poland,  Portugal, 
England,  France,  Italy  and  Lithuania  created  special  awareness  raising  videos,  posters  and 
other  information  material.    The  first  level  crossing  awareness  day  was  held  in  June  2009 
with  a  European  scope,  but  for  the  2010  event  the  scope  was  expanded  to  cover  all  five 
continents. In 2011 the international awareness day will be in June 11. The videos produced 
are available on the homepage www.ILCAD.org. 
 
The Role of UNECE 
The UNECE working party on road safety (WP. 1), the working party on rail transport (SC. 2) 
and the working party of road and rail infrastructure (SC. 1) provide an excellent framework 
of  knowledge  sharing  and  capacity  building.  Therefore  it  has  been  suggested  that  a 
multidisciplinary  group  of  experts,  including  members  of  each  working  party  and  other 
stakeholders should be created in order to improve the safety at level crossings
