The basic objectives of FL teaching.

It is a common knowledge that there are lots of languages in the world, and some of them fall into the category of international languages or languages of wider communication groups, such as English; French, German, Spanish, Russian, Italian and Arabic. All these languages are the official languages of the UN.
English language is very important nowadays. More and more people need English to attend universities and colleges, because now we have an opportunity to get higher education abroad. New ideas in science and medicine happen so quickly that it is impossible to translate everything into different languages. Most articles are published in English. English is the language of international communication in many areas of life: trade, air and sea transport, tourism and sport. Ukraine is establishing closer economic, politi­cal, scientific, and cultural relations with various peoples of the world. International relations are extended and strength­ened through the exchange of scientific, technical, and cultural information. In this situation foreign language teaching is a matter of state significance.
In modern society language is used in two ways: directly or orally, and indirectly or in written form. Thus we distin­guish oral language and written language. Direct communi­cation implies a speaker and a hearer, indirect communica­tion implies a writer and a reader. Hence the practical aims in teaching a foreign language are four in number: hearing, speaking, reading, and writing.



  1. The main periods of teaching FL in Uzbekistan

The specifics of the first four periods (1, II, HI, IV) can be characterized with reference to J.J. Jalolov and A.A. Klevan's article.
At the first period the West-European languages were taught at Cadet Corps and the Russian gymnasiums were opened in Tashkent, Samarkand, Ferghana (former Scobelev), Kokand and Andijan. But the children of workers had no opportunity to study there. Uzbekistan's policy of openness, active entry into the global market, expansion of international cooperation in all areas increase the need for studying foreign languages. Teaching in foreign languages is conducted in 25 higher education institutions in Uzbekistan. In 2016, there were only 7 such institutions. Over the past 3 years, the number of applicants who have received a language certificate of international level has increased tenfold.
This year 350 students received grants to study at prestigious foreign universities through the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation, which is five times more than in previous years 20 specialists will be sent abroad annually for doctoral studies through the El Yurt Umidi Foundation to increase the scientific and pedagogical potential in this sphere.
The importance of further strengthening cooperation with such foreign organizations as the British Council, Goethe-Institut, Alliance Française, KOICA JICA, Confucius Institute. and expanding the network of non-governmental training centers was emphasized.
