From table 6.1 it is obvious that group HT2A showed stronger agreement with the
statements, values of their answers outnumbered group HT2B in 6 out of 7 categories.
This
might be caused by the fact, that group HT2B has already experienced three
changes of their English teacher in the last two years. Huge differences in the language level of
students play also major part in their weaker performance and feeling of lower success
compared to group HT2A. The last, but not the least problem that may be a reason for their
poorer results and evaluation
is the class climate, which is constantly being challenged by
several people who refuse to do activities and tend to spread this behaviour to other colleagues.
To summarize the first part of the questionnaire, it can be concluded that the groups did
not share the same opinion on the fulfilment of the aims. Whereas group HT2A expressed the
strongest emphasis on statement 5 – “the activities made the lessons more entertaining and I
was looking forward to them“, group HT2B laid the strongest emphasis on statement 6 - “during
the activities I had a lot of opportunities to activate the vocabulary related to my study
programme“. It is evident that despite the fact that group B found the speaking activities more
difficult, they valued their practical character and possibility to practise some of the vocabulary.
On the other hand, group A appreciated the entertaining spirit of the activities more, but since
their average value of response to statement 6
is also very high, the fact that they had been
created conditions to practise specific vocabulary played an important part for them as well.
Apart from the above mentioned, students from group A also highly valued statement 2
“activities have helped me improve my fluency and verbalize and express my opinion“ and
statement 3 - “After going through all the activities, I feel more
comfortable in everyday
activities connected to tourism and hotel keeping”. Group B valued rather highly statement 5 -
” The activities made the lessons more entertaining and I was looking forward to them”.
The lowest value was reached, and in this aspect both groups have expressed the same
opinon, with statement 7 - ”I feel more motivated to learn language not only at school, but also
at other places”. I believe that if more time could have been spent working on similar activities
and on motivation and encouragement of students, the value would be higher.
It is essential to say, that none of the average values dropped below 3,00, which can be
considered a rather successful fulfilment of the aims. As it is evident from the above mentioned
table, most of the students believe that the activities have helped them improve their speaking
skills and self-confidence.
