Characteristics of the activity 
Students create a screenplay for a travel agency advertisement and a message that would express 
the spirit of the company and attract people’s attention. 
Preparation time: No time for preparation needed

Motivation 
Teacher tells the students that finally the time has come and they have enough money to start 
their own travel agency. But as every business, they need to lure potentional customers. And 
what can be more effective than an advertisement on TV. Students become a panel whose task 
is to agree on the screenplay of the advertisement and on the message the would be sent at the 
end to the potentional customers. The more inventive and striking, the better. 
Procedure 
Each class is divided maximally into three groups, each group brings or is given a notebook to 
visualise the message for everybody to read. 
At first students need to discuss the types of holiday and destinations their agency will provide. 
When they agree on this, they can start targeting the advertisement. They should discuss where 
the advertisement will take place, what should be seen there, what activities should be present 
there. Simply the commercial should say everything about the agency without words, with one 
exception – the final message. The final message could be considered the motto of the company. 
It should distinguish it from its competitors. Students design it on the computers with help of 
graphic programmes. 
When the time is up, students go and read other people’s messages. After that, there is a short 
conversation, where students try to guess some features from the commercial based on the 
knowledge ot the agency motto. Eventually, they compare their guesses with reality. 
Methodology 
It is important that students finish at the same time so that there is space for other additional 
activites. Teacher should monitor the progeress of all groups and help them if they get stuck at 
some point or with translation of their messages. 
Students need to discuss a lot of things so it is highly probable that they would switch into their 
mother tongue. To work on their fluency skill, it is advisable to prevent them from doing it.
