12/21/15-01/04/16 – Winter Break

01/05/16: Classes Resume

Cotee River Spirit Day – Every Friday CRES has a Spirit Day and we ask for students to wear their Cotee River t-shirts. Also, on the last Friday on each month they can wear their favorite college team shirts. If you would like to purchase a school t-shirt please stop in the main office and see Mrs. Glover.

Thank you – Thank you for your generous donations for our Holiday Food Drive, Lori King, Gary Gaal, M/I Homes, Rosemary Roorda, Kwanis of Greater West Pasco, Timber Green Helping Hands, and U.S. Marine Corp.

Welcome – CRES wishes to thank After Hours Pediatrics for becoming a Business Partner. They will be opening a new location at 5400 Little Rd. (in the River Crossing area) in mid December. Again, thank you for joining our family.

Paper Recycling – Did you know that CRES has a green dumpster (located at the front of the school along the loop, by the PLACE turn off) where you can donate ANY kind of paper good for recycling? Help us to help the environment by saving all paper trash including newspapers, cardboard, and packaging. By placing these items in our green dumpster, you also help CRES earn $$$$$$$! Every little bit helps. We appreciate your support!

Box Tops for Education – PTA is looking forward to another exciting year at CRES! This year, our school will continue to participate in both the Box Tops and Labels for Education Programs. Through these programs, we can collect box tops and Campbell soup labels UPC codes from participating products to earn money from Box Tops and points from Labels. Students in K-2 turn in what they have collected on Wednesdays and 3-5 grades on Fridays.

Clinic News - This note is being sent to remind you to check your child for head lice on a weekly basis as part of his or her regular personal hygiene routine.   Since our primary business is education and because head checks in school are inappropriate and ineffective, we are requesting that you check your child’s head at home. Please review the Pasco School District brochure “Even Nice People Get Lice”, sent home earlier this year, which contains useful information about the prevention and treatment of head lice. If you do not have a copy of the brochure, please let us know and we will send one home with your child.  If you need additional information, contact the Clinic at 727-774-43005, and we will have the registered nurse get in touch with you.

Art News - Thanks to all of the families who helped support the art department by ordering fun products from Square One Art.  Orders will be received and distributed to students on Monday, December 7th.

Congratulations to the following students who will have an artwork on display at the New Port Richey Judicial Center:  Nadiya (St. Pierre), Kailani (Arseneau), Michele (Crawford), and Marissa (Emert)

Congratulations to Janelle Lppez, who won First Place in the 5th grade Yearbook Cover Art Contest, and to Makenna Richardson, who won the contest for the 5th grade T-shirt design.  Way to go!!

Also a special thanks to the volunteers who are helping out in the art room!  Approved volunteers are always welcome to join us.

Art Club:  The last meeting for 5th grade art club is Thursday, December 17th.  When we return from winter break I will send out applications to fourth grade students interested in joining.

PTA Holiday House - The all new Cotee River PTA holiday day house will be taking place December 7th - 11th.

We will be open each morning from 8:30 to 9:30 am and each afternoon from 4:00 to 5:30pm. We will have extended hours before the Winter Concert from 4:30 to 7:00 pm.  We have all new gifts and gift wrapping will be available as well.  We look forward to seeing all of our families.

Early Dismissal – The District is now tacking early dismissals for students. As a result of this procedure, all early dismissals are entered into TERMS daily and these entries show as a tardy in the system. At this time, TERMS does not have a way to show early dismissal (W) versus tardy (T) on report cards.

Vote for Your Principal - For the second year, the West Pasco Chamber and Bright House Networks are honoring Pasco County Schools by making one elementary school, one middle school, and one high school principal, from schools west of Highway 41, a grand marshal at the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce Holiday Parade, on Saturday, December 12, in downtown New Port Richey.  They have set up an online voting site and encourage schools to challenge their students, staff and parents to vote to have their principal represent the district.  The principals from each school level with the most votes will get to ride on the grand marshal float. Voting is open now and will end on Monday, December 7.

Music News - Thanks to our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade parents who visited our music room during the first week of November!

Grades k, 1, and 2 parents will have this opportunity to visit the music room in the spring!

Don't forget that our Winter Concert is rapidly approaching! Our Lightning Chorus and Thunder Chorus will present "Elfis and the Sleigh Riders" on Tuesday, Dec. 8th, 7 p.m., here at CRES. Thunder Chorus members, your shirts will be delivered after Thanksgiving break!

Our Lightning Chorus has another performance opportunity at the Madison Pointe Nursing Home on Tuesday, Dec. 15th, 7 p.m. The nursing home is at 6020 Indiana Avenue, in New Port Richey.  We're glad to share music for the winter season and we hope that it gets everyone in the holiday spirit! If you have any questions, please email or call Mrs. Kelberlau: ekelberl@pasco.k12.fl. us, 774-3000.

Bucs Tickets - Don’t forget you can still continue to purchase game tickets throughout the fall by purchasing online!  We have several games during the holidays and it is perfect time for families to come out.  Maybe it will be a little cooler! Our school receives a portion of the proceeds from these tickets and you benefit from a reduced rate as well.

If you are interested, visit www.buccaneers.com/schoolprogram.

Thank you – CRES would like to thank U.S. Marine Corp., Mitchell High ROTR, 3rd Class Petty Officer Roland Miner, Pasco Sheriff’s Equestrian Units, Gy. Sgt. Freddie Jones, and the CRES Lightning Chorus for a wonderful program. Each year the program becomes a greater tribute to our Veterans.

The 21st annual Farm Share Holiday Food Giveaway will be held on December 11, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.  The giveaway, which includes fresh food donated by Florida’s farmers, will be held at Faith Baptist Church located at 9230 Ridge Road in New Port Richey.  All needy families are welcome. For more information about the giveaway please contact the office of Tax Collector Mike Fasano at 727-847-8165.

Student Council News - The Student Council will be selling Christmas Ornaments from December 14th-18th (or until they sell out!) They are “Magic Color Scratch” Ornaments that the whole family can enjoy! The cost is $1.00 each.

December Trait - What does it mean to be caring?

1. Showing concern for the well being of others.

2. Using your words and actions to help someone.

3. Giving of yourself without expecting anything in return.

What are some words that describe the character trait of caring?

  • Kindness

  • Thoughtful

  • Sharing,

  • Helping

  • Understanding

PBIS Corner - At Cotee River, we have been implementing PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) in many ways. To start off every Monday each classroom has a “Morning Meeting” where they discuss the character trait of the month and end each week with a Wrap-up of what they’ve learned. Ask your student about this activity!

We also involve our 4th and 5th graders in our newest program called, “Developing Student Leaders”. Each monthly meeting involves different activities; talking about the traits of a leader, activities for team building and/or motivational videos. The students really get excited about become leaders in our schools and our communities!!

We also continue to reward those students who are “caught being good” and some even receive a medal of honor for going above and beyond our school expectations….we are so proud of our Cotee River students!!

Together We Stand 5K Run - The Together We Stand 5K Run for Safe Schools is scheduled for Saturday, December 12, 2015.  This is a fun, high-energy event to support our student leaders who are preventing bullying by making their schools safer and more inclusive.  Please consider signing up for the Together We Stand 5K for Safe Schools  and sharing this information with your friends, community organizations and family.  This is a fun event for a great cause.  We have discounted registration for our students, as well as Pasco County Schools and Pasco County Sheriff’s Office employees.

  • Our focus is on creating safer, more inclusive schools and communities by preventing all forms of violence, including bullying.

  • Proceeds from the run will be used to provide scholarships for Pasco County high school students to attend the Summer Youth Leadership Institute hosted by Sunrise of Pasco.

  • Any remaining funds will be used to help provide additional school- and district-based student leadership activities, such as the Together We Stand summit, for Pasco County students.

  • If you are interested in volunteering at the 5K, please contact Molly Blair at 774-485

  • Reference the attached flyer for additional information.

CRES Clothing Closet - This year we have been actively collecting new and gently used clothing to stock our own “Clothing Closet”. We are happy to report that we are overflowing with items such as shirts and pants. If your family is in need of any clothing items, we invite you to contact Ms. Nanette Galati, our Parent Involvement Coordinator, to set up a time during the school day to come in and get what you need. In the event transportation and/ or timing is an issue, we have created a form which can be sent home upon request (please call the front office). When we receive the request form, will call your child/ children down to pick out the items requested and send them home in their backpack. Our goal is to be sure all our students have clothing (including shoes and jackets) to keep them safe and comfortable. We are very thankful to be able to offer this service this year and want to express our gratitude to the many volunteers who have spent countless hours getting this room ready for use.
