6.5.1. Cyber incidents 
It is essential to keep investing in security measures as a company. The logistics sector is exceptionally 
vulnerable to cyber incidents because the transport of physical goods is based
on data. Information exchange is crucial in the logistics chain. 
1. Deploy industry-leading cybersecurity protocols 
This is a crucial part of securing the length and breadth of the logistics network with the right 
cybersecurity solutions and by training people. Logistics players must affirm that their employees 
know the value of ensuring physical and cyber safety by following all protocols such as changing the 
password regularly, not clicking on phishing links, not revealing confidential information, not falling 
for social engineering tricks. More frequent updating and upgrading security software is essential here 
to avoid the occurrence of weak links in the network.
2. Attain global network visibility with vendors 
While it is challenging to get third-party vendors to work with the same level of data security that you 
deploy, they must be held accountable for the data they process as well. This discretion involves 
signing contracts with them to uphold the security of information and keeping them legally liable for 
any compromised information. Deploying software that grants visibility into details at all stages of the 
supply chain is also a great step to ascertain the security gaps and to spot vulnerable points in the 
network.
3. Engage specialist security partners 
Shipments are always going to be vulnerable to theft 
–
whether at the warehouse, or the port or on 
virtual systems. With crores of rupees worth of goods or data lost every year, hiring specialist partners 
who can guarantee the security of the logistics industry is advisable. There are expert technology 
companies now that provide advanced tools to safeguard logistics, such as real-time container 
tracking, network firewall security, mobile device management, user-defined accessibility
and more.

also enables profitable risk assessment strategies. 
4. Conduct regular security audits and analysis 
Regular penetration testing and security audits are the hallmarks of any successful security setup. This 
is applicable in the logistics industry as well, and logistics players are encouraged to employ white-hat 
hackers to spot weak points in their networks and routinely address their risk profiles. Annual or bi-
annual security audits may seem excessive, but they can go a long way towards protecting the supply 
chain and the intellectual property that the logistics industry possesses. 
At its core, the purpose of an effective supply chain is to get raw materials from point A to B in the 
most cost-effective manner. However, data leakages at any point in the supply chain can lead to 
delays, and higher procurement spends. Disrupted supply chains can cause significant direct and 
indirect harm to consumers and the economy, and that is one of the primary reasons why ensuring 
data security at every stage is vital.
