Thus, the presented course work provides a detailed description of the English society of the XIX century. For the most complete and comprehensive disclosure of the given topic, historical events taking place in England are considered and analyzed, including its foreign and domestic policy, economic development of the country, life and customs, culture, and simply the life of the English people of the XIX century.

Over the centuries, the UK has developed a rich and diverse culture that is well-known all over the world. Of all the cultural values created by the English people, the richest is English literature, which has had a great influence on the development of all world literature.
That is why Charles Dickens ' novel "Great Expectations", which can be attributed to a documentary source, was used in the course work for a deep and truthful description of the life of townspeople, artisans, the bourgeoisie and the characteristics of the entire English society.
The novel "Great Expectations", published in 1861, was created in new historical conditions - in the conditions of the decline of the labor movement (chartism) and the triumph of Victorian reactionary ideology.
The ideological idea of the novel, which defined its themes and problems - its plot, composition, system of artistic images, language and style-is the idea of truthfully showing the ruined youth, the impossibility for a generation of honest and gifted young people of that time to win happiness and achieve success in the conditions of universal competition and the triumph of the unscrupulousness of bourgeois morality.

Therefore, we can also consider the work "Great Expectations" as an ethnographic source that shows readers the rites, customs and characteristics of English society in the middle of the XIX century.
