The object of the research was the process of creating new generation textbooks in history through benchmarking, which involved 200 secondary school teachers, 30 methodologists of the departments of public education and 50 specialists and scientists of higher education establishments.
Scientific novelty of the research consists of the following:
The integrative functions of informational, motivational and activity-based components have been identified through the empirical assessment of the basic textual (theoretical-cognitive, practical-instrumental) and non-textual (convenience of learning, illustrative and instructional materials) content of new generation textbooks;
The stages of creation of new generation textbooks (preparatory, database, result analysis, introduction of innovations) based on benchmarking projects have been improved by giving priority to the strategic, operational, process, internal and external types of educational benchmarking, expert assessment of the practical work experience and quality indicators;
The didactic and methodological requirements for new generation textbooks in history have been improved through the introduction of the practice of creating special activity books, defining study units, identifying objectives, creating timelines, presenting a reality as panorama and structuring analytical and research tasks systematically according to the principle of “the history of everyday life”;
The methodological component of the technology of creating new generation textbooks in secondary school subjects has been improved through self-study, experimental work, basic abstract composition, algorithm search, knowledge systematization, development of punch cards and facet tests, and provision of the continuity and feedback of didactic units on designing the learning mosaics and field of knowledge.
Implementation of the research results. Based on the research results on improvement of the technology of creating new generation textbooks in secondary school subjects through benchmarking:
the proposals on identifying the integrative functions of informational, motivational and activity-based components through the empirical assessment of the basic textual (theoretical-cognitive, practical-instrumental) and non-textual (convenience of learning, illustrative and instructional materials) content of new generation textbooks were used in developing the “General requirements for the development of new generation educational and methodological sets in subjects for secondary schools, secondary special and vocational education institutions”, which were approved by Appendix No.5 to the Resolution No.187 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan as of 6 April 2017 “On approval of State Education Standards of secondary school, secondary special and vocational education” (Certificate No.06-02/1-3042 of the Ministry of Public Education as of 24 October 2019). Based on these proposals, the ergonomic requirements for the creation of textbooks in secondary school subjects were improved;
the proposals and recommendations on improving the stages of creation of new generation textbooks based on benchmarking projects by giving priority to the strategic, operational, process, internal and external types of educational benchmarking, expert assessment of the practical work experience and quality indicators were introduced into the process of ensuring fulfilment of the tasks mentioned in paragraphs 1, 6 and 11 of the minutes of the meeting on 3 January 2018, chaired by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Certificate No.06-02/1-3042 of the Ministry of Public Education as of 24 October 2019). As a result, it was possible to eliminate shortcomings in the textbooks, teaching and methodological guides created in secondary school subjects, and improve the motivational and developmental functions of textbooks;
the practical recommendations on improving the didactic and methodological requirements for new generation textbooks in history through the introduction of the practice of creating special activity books, defining study units, identifying objectives, creating timelines, presenting a reality as panorama and structuring analytical and research tasks systematically according to the principle of “the history of everyday life” were used in developing the practical project No.A1-QX-1-95207 entitled “Selection and design of learning materials presented in modern textbooks based on the principle of concentrism” (2012-2014) (Certificate No.06-02/1-3042 of the Ministry of Public Education as of 24 October 2019). As a result, it was possible to increase the efficiency of systematization of learning materials in new generation textbooks based on the competence-based approach;
the proposals on improving the methodological component of the technology of creating new generation textbooks, creating a competitive environment for the creation of textbooks and teaching materials, as well as ensuring its transparency, and creation of textbooks and teaching materials in accordance with modern requirements were used to develop technical requirements approved by Resolution No.146 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan as of 3 June 2015 “On approval of the general technical regulation on safe printing products for educational institutions” (Certificate No.06-02/1-3042 of the Ministry of Public Education as of 24 October 2019). As a result, new requirements have been developed to create new generation textbooks, which made it possible to improve the quality of textbooks and facilitate pupils’ learning and understanding.
