Introduction.
Termites are social insects and live in enormous colonies with well-regulated
caste systems. Each caste member has clear physical and behavioral characteristics (1). Termites are
controversial theme. On the one hand, Termites take part in soil forming processes they raise soil pH,
organic carbon content, water content and porosity by recycling dead organics (2) and they are
(especially winged forms) rich caloric food for other animal species (3). On the other hand, termites
cause remarkable damage worldwide (4). They devastate houses, furniture, various wild plants, trees,
and crops, as well as books stored in libraries.
Termites of the
Anacanthotermes
genera were first registered in middle Asia in 1875. In
Uzbekistan (Mirzachul), they were registered in 1903. In Uzbekistan, two species of the
Anacanthotermes
genus are widespread:
A. turkestanicus
and
A. ahngerianus (5)..
In 2001, the Institute
of Zoology started studying the ecology of the termite. Numerous scientists in Uzbekistan have studied
the origin, biology, ethology of termites and their damage to society. Nevertheless, physiologic
processes including orientation by visual cues have not been studied in termites of
Anacanthotermes
.
According to our results, maybe connection termites of
Anacanthotermes
with the environment
are realized with visually cues also. Not only by pheromones, mechanical or chemical ways
(Khamraev,2008; Costa-Leonardo, 2009). In our opinion, vision plays a special role in the life of
termites and the study of this feature will give us new data on the amazing abilities of these insects.
