How to Create a Job Search Strategy
Attacking your job search with intention is so important. You must have a strategy.
Having a strategy means you know the end goal, and you are creating a plan of action
with the exact steps to get there. 
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. 
For some reason, job seekers globally have been taught the WRONG way to apply for
jobs.
The most common approach is to go onto a job board, enter your target job title, and
apply for as many positions as you can. 
For the masses of job seekers, this does not work.
Because there are just too many people flooding online applications. To
really get noticed you have to use a different approach.

So, here is how you create an effective modern-day Job Search Strategy that
actually works
1. Write a list of 3-5 job titles/roles you want to apply for (See the research we did in Step 1) 
2. Write a list of 30-50 companies (a combination of your dream companies, companies of 
interest, and companies that are hiring right now). Use a Google Sheet to keep track of this
list.
3. For each company research to see if you have a connection to someone who works there
(Alumni connection, a family member/friend, or acquaintance). If you do, give this company a
checkmark. These are the companies you will prioritize. Tip: Used LinkedIn to find 2nd and 3rd-
degree connections
4. Research to see which of your priority companies are hiring right now. If they are, include
them in your Phase 1 list. 
5. Build relationships with people that work in the companies on your Phase 1 checklist. Most
importantly, find the person who could be your potential boss. Find common connections and
conduct Informational Interviews to obtain valuable insights about them and the company.
This will lead to more insight & open the door to opportunities. 
6. Work your way down your list by reaching out to people in your target companies and
building relationships.
The most important thing to remember here is to have a strategy. After you have gone
through your Phase 1 list, you can then move onto your other companies of interest and apply
to their open positions.
Expert Tip: 
The key here is to build relationships and to get as much information and insight into
the company, their employees, what challenges they are facing, and most importantly
make connections with the right people. Use this information to show how you can add
value.
