Short Review of Foreign Relations of Georgia
During 1991-2009
Summary
From the day of Georgia independence (19991 Y.) restoration began the building of democratic country. After saving from the Soviet Union claws Georgian took direction toward West, what caused irritation of the North neighbor - Russian country. The internal political and economical instability added it, what brake democracy development. The internal disturbances and external forces inspirited events made it loose the territories, what caused the interruption of country development.
Nowadays, it can be said easily that in international modern system Georgian has its own place. The changes in international system did not make a great influence on Georgia geopolitical status, because it was and stays to be between East and West. The fact is also noticeable that in spite of changes in the world, the Georgia geopolitical status stays unchanged, what means that any administration of country should foreseen taken historical experience for centuries.
Georgian should always try its politics to be balanced and non-aggressive. The country should foreseen the factor which determinate its geopolitical situation, because without geopolitical it is impossible to work out the direction of foreign politic. So, the production of Georgian foreign politics should reply a demand, which is determined by the world, Europe and neighbor countries. More than 100 countries have bilateral diplomatic relation with Georgia, but Georgia has multilateral and friendly relations with the world leading countries. The independent Georgian connected its future with West. After 2003 “Rose Revolution” Georgian political orientation becomes more Western. The new board of administration has changed and revived as internal so foreign politic of the country.
After Rose Revolution firstly in the country has been made the National Safety Conception where distinctly is formed the foreign relatives of the country. According to the Conception foreign politic is one of the important direction of Georgian National safety and its aim is forming of the national profitable environment. To reach this aim Georgia collaborates with International Concord in bilateral and multilateral formats. The main aim of Georgia is unification in EU and NATO which will be the guarantee of peace and democratic principles.
The realization of the current projects supported and supports now the Georgia strategy partner USA. Also the millennium program drawn out by USA is very important which aims to invest capital of America in Georgia. America importantly helps Georgia to become a participant of NATO and many other positive questions, which have to be used by Georgia. Negative dependence from neighbor Russia towards unprecedented support from USA, which has not adapted with Georgia’s independence and international recognition up to today.
In spite of constant conflict situation Georgia still preserves good-neighborliness, relation with neighbor country. Georgia continues collaboration with leading international organization and institutions. The main aim of Georgia remains to be a member of NATO and Atlantic space, what is the foreign politic future plan of strategic development.
