4. CONCLUSION
ESP teachers can acquire the characteristics of the best college teachers. However, since these characteristics refer to teachers’ learning and teaching philosophy as well as to their interactions with students, they are obviously of epistemic, socio-cultural and psychological nature. Consequently, there is a need for developing an ESP teacher training course that will aid in fostering of these teachers’ traits. We recommend Jack Mezirow’s Transformative Learning Theory as a basis for such training course because of several reasons: it is a type of adult education by which meaning perspectives of the trainee can be transformed and this can be done by the use of communicative and instrumental learning which in turn tackle epistemic, socio-cultural and psychological issues.
