-Created a high level of course integration: they were always checking that their learning and assessment activities match their students’ learning goals. In addition, they found ways to connect out-of-class learning with in-class learning which made the course a sequence of activities that could lead to ‘cumulating activity or project’. (ibid) ESP teachers can do the both. The former is done by constant examination of the results and goals, and the latter, as already mentioned, is very suitable for ESP courses because students can be involved in long-term researches in the field of their interest and can later come up with a seminar paper and a presentation that will foster different subject and generic competences in the students.
Our example: the whole course, starting from the fostering of note-taking activities, paraphrasing, practicing of wide range of rhetorical functions (narration, description, instructions, classification, comparison, argumentation, analysis and synthesis) make the course a sequence of related activities or cumulative activity.
2.3 INTERACTIONS WITH STUDENTS
-Positive attitudes toward students: they never blame students and do not make comments like: ‘Today’s students just don’t [fill in your favorite problem] like before (or: like in the days when I was a student)’. (Fink 2012, 9)Rather, their statements reveal they trust their students and consider them good people and learners. This attitude is especially important for ESP students. The combination of foreign language learning in a particular context may be frustrating for many students. Others may be more relaxed or feel more comfortable and that may leave an impression that they are not interested or do not involve themselves enough in the course.
Our example: we have become aware since long time ago that students have great potential for both learning and applying their knowledge. They have different strong intelligences and their potential to evolve their consciousness is larger than that of our generation. And this should be sincerely appreciated.
