Mt. Wolf Elementary Welcome Letter
Dear Parents and Students,
It is my pleasure to welcome you and your child to our school. The Mount Wolf Elementary School’s administration, faculty, and staff are looking forward to another exciting year of new experiences and lots of fun! It is during the first years of life that children form attitudes about themselves, others, learning, and the environment. These attitudes last a lifetime, so we work very hard to find ways to help children develop positive attitudes.
Educating a child is successful when families and schools work together in the best interests of the child. We welcome your input and assistance in educating your child; after all, you are your child’s first teacher! Valuing education and the opportunities it provides is an important first step. We are hopeful that you will find time to participate in some of our school functions. We are always in need of parents to help with daily activities and special events.
Going to school is one of the most important experiences in a child’s life. School can be an exciting place where children meet new and different people and participate in many new and different experiences. We promise to work diligently to provide your child with wonderful experiences that help them to feel good about themselves and their school and eager to learn.
We are anxious to work with you and your child during this school year. If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
Sincerely,
Randi Beth Payne

PTO President’s Welcome!
Dear Mount Wolf Families,
Welcome back to Mount Wolf Elementary! I can’t wait to see all of our returning students and families and meet our Kindergartners and new incoming students! Let me start by telling you a little about me. This is my 6th year at Mount Wolf PTO, but my first year as president. I have a 5th grader at SBI, a 1st grader here at Mount Wolf, and a toddler. By the time my youngest leaves Mount Wolf, I will have had children here for 11 years! I have been fundraising chair for years, and the last two years I’ve also been the treasurer. I love getting to interact with all of the amazing children and families at Mount Wolf each year and if I don’t already know you, I look forward to meeting you this year with my new position.
I would like to take this time to invite all families to join our PTO. The PTO is responsible for a lot of behind the scenes planning and executing of many fun and crucial activities here at Mount Wolf. We fund all field trips for the school, parties, book fairs, AR book stores, t-shirts, Santa breakfast, fun day, and many other fun things here at the school. Our PTO is comprised of volunteer parents and caregivers, teachers, and school administrators who work together to make each child’s school experience better.
Our PTO meets every month, on the second Monday of the month, in the school library, to discuss the previous month’s events and to plan upcoming events, fundraisers, and share ideas on how to make new and exciting events for your child and family to enjoy! At our meetings, we usually have a babysitter available if you need to bring your children with you to be able to come. A small annual monetary contribution is all you need to join our PTO! I hope you are able to come to a meeting and join in on the ongoing planning for this upcoming school year. You do not have to be an active member of the PTO to start getting involved. Watch for the papers to come home with your child at the beginning of the school year for more information on how to join.
There are so many ways to be involved in your child’s elementary experience! We are always looking for new PTO members to help with different committees. Feel free to see me or any other PTO member with any questions. Don’t forget!!! Northeastern school district has a volunteer policy that requires a few clearances to be able to participate in school activities. Packets are available in the office.
If you would like to join us at our first meeting, it will be held in the library on Monday, August 10 at 6:15 pm in the library.
Come help us plan a wonderful and memorable school year for our children!!!

PTO Board Meetings are held in the library on the second Monday of the month (generally). They follow a scheduled agenda and are approximately 1 hour in length; beginning at 6:15 pm. Any person who is a PTO member is welcome to attend. Monthly meeting minutes are available in the office and on the PTO page of the Mt. Wolf Elementary website: www.nesd.k12.pa.us.
Descriptions of Mt. Wolf PTO Committees for 2015-2016
Membership: This committee is needed from the beginning of the school year until the end of October. The purpose of this committee is to get the information out to parents to obtain memberships to the PTO. This committee also has to keep records of who has joined. Usually a display is put up and maintained in the school and a classroom competition occurs to see which class has the highest percentage of PTO memberships.
Fundraising: This committee needs to distribute sale flyers, collect & check orders and money, set delivery dates and sort and distribute the products.
Hospitality: This committee is in charge of BINGO night (Jan. 20), Teacher Appreciation (May) and VIP Breakfast (May 25).
Yearbook: This committee will be taking pictures and arranging the layout of the yearbook. The yearbook is assembled using an online program with School Annual Publishing Company. In addition to doing the yearbook, this committee also has to distribute the order sheets and track orders. The distribution of the yearbook is at the end of the year.
Book Fair: This committee will work with Scholastic Books to organize the set-up of our book fairs in the fall (October), winter (January), and spring (May). They will also organize volunteers to assist the students on the days of the book fair.
Party Coordinator: The Homeroom coordinator is in charge of organizing the Fall Costume Party (October) and Valentine Party (February) by procuring volunteers for each classroom/activity, purchasing necessary items and overseeing the actual events.

Attendance
Every child of compulsory school age and having legal residence in Northeastern School District is required to attend either a public, private or parochial school unless he/she is excused according to regulations covered in the School Code.
Absences and Excuses
When a child is absent from school, the school office must be contacted in order for the absence to be potentially marked excused. This contact can be made via phone to the office secretary, email (again, to the secretary) or on the standard written excuse form (located at the back of your handbook). The reason provided by the parent/guardian must meet the criteria for an excused absence in order for the student to be marked excused for the day(s).
It is our hope that parents understand and promote the importance of daily school attendance. Naturally, there are times when a student is ill and unable to attend school. Please see the Nurse’s Information to assist you in making that determination.
Work Missed During an Absence
Students are permitted and are encouraged to make up all work that is missed during their absence. The student must arrange to make up the missed work within three days after returning to school. The length of time that will be given to make up work will be determined by the individual teacher based on the length of absence. Homebound instruction is provided when a lengthy absence is anticipated.
