1. Qoida: O‘tgan zamonda ma’lum bir vaqtda bajarilayotgan ish – harakatni ko’rsatadi.

I was working in the garden at 5 o’clock yesterday.

2. Qoida: When bog’lovchisi bilan o’tgan zamonda bajarilayotgan, sodir bo’layotgan ish harakat davomida, 2-bir ish harakatning sodir bo’lishi. Bunda odatda uzoqroq vaqt oluvchi ish harakat past continuous, qisqaroq vaqt oluvchi ish harakat past simple da ishlatiladi.

a) WHEN PAST SIMLE, PAST CONTINUOUS

When he came, I was watching TV.

b) WHEN PAST CONTINUOUS, PAST SIMPLE.

When I was walking, I noticed a police car.

3. Qoida: While/As bilan o’tgan zamonda bir xil vaqtda( parallel) sodir bo’lgan 2 ish harakatlarni ko’rsatish uchun.

WHILE PAST CONTINUOUS, PAST CONTIUOUS

Ex: While he was playing football, I was playing basketball.

A MMO: 2 ish harakat bir- biri bilan parallellikni yo’qotganda. Bunda odatda holat fe’llari(see, notice) va qisqa ma’noli fe’llar(cut, burn, arrive, come) bilan ishlatilishini ko’rishimiz mumkin.

WHILE/AS PAST CONTINUOUS, PAST SIMPLE

Ex: While/as she was cooking dinner, she burnt herself.

Y uqoridagi ikki holatdan while ni quyidagi holatda ham uchratashimiz mumkin.

WHILE/AS PAST SIMLE, PAST SIMPLE

Ex: While he watched TV, he fell asleep.

4. Qoida: Hikoya va romanlarning kirish qismi, tabiat tasviri past continuousda, asosiy qismi (hikoya fe’li) past simpleda bo’ladi.

Ex: One beautiful autumn afternoon, Ben was strolling down in a quiet country lane. The birds were singing and the leaves were rustling in the breeze. Suddenly Ben noticed somebody coming towards him… .
