Students look for the order of events or steps in a process.
DAY
1
Remind students of the 
Main Idea and Details
skill. Say: You can think of the main idea as an 
umbrella that stretches over the smaller details. Try to identify at least three details that go 
with each main idea. Have students read the instructions at the top of the page. Then remind 
them of the 
Monitor Comprehension 
strategy (Week 1). Tell students to pause briefly if they are 
confused by any information in the passage. Remind them to reread certain paragraphs or the 
whole passage if necessary. Then direct students to read the passage and complete the skill and 
strategy practice activities. Review the answers together.
DAY
2
Remind students of the 
Main Idea and Details
skill. Say: Look for a main idea and its details in 
each individual paragraph. Then think about the main idea and details of the passage as a 
whole. Remind students of the 
Visualization
strategy (Week 3). Tell students they are going to read 
about light displays that naturally occur in the sky. Say: As you read, try to imagine what the 
lights look like. Close your eyes to picture the colors and shapes. Have students read the 
instructions at the top of the page and the passage. When students have finished, direct them to 
complete the skill practice activity. Review the answers together. Then have students complete the 
strategy practice activity on a separate sheet of paper. Invite volunteers to share their sketches with 
the group.
DAY
3
Remind students of the 
Sequence
skill. Tell students they are going to read about baby sea turtles. 
Say: The life cycle of an animal or plant occurs in a sequence, or specific order. Pay attention to
