Kosh-Darvaza Gate

It is the northern gate of Dishan Qala in the direction of the city of Urgench. Therefore, they were also called Urgench gate. Kosh-Darvaza - paired gates, as they are called among the people,were erected in 1912 on the site of Islam Khodja’s old gate built by Allakulikhan in the form of pakhsa of adobe bricks and blocks (in 1842), and because dilapidation was demolished. As conceived by the chief Vizier Khan Islam Khodja in Khiva Khanate it was plannedto build railroad from Chardzhou (now Turkmenabat in Turkmenistan) to Khiva. According to the story of the old-timers,it was scheduled for trains to pass through these twin gates. Probably for this reason, the gate has peculiar appearance. The facade has three cylindrical towers, with two arched passages between them and the traditional gallery with serrated railing. Service facilities are located on both sides of the driveways. The main facade is decorated with mosaics on the gate towers. Small dome towers art decorated with blue tiles. The overall dimensions of the gate is 25h17 m, height is 9.45 m.

Khazarasp Darvaza Gate

It is the eastern gate of Dishan Qala. It is arranged in the outer walls of the fortress (Dishan feces) from the east. Officially its name is Khazarasp-Darvaza (gate Khazorasp). Because through them the way leads to the Khazarasp city. But the people call them Coy Darvaza (Sheep Gate) because rich merchants trading sheep and goats brought their goods to market sheep through the gate, which was located right in front of the gate from the inside. In addition, the gate was alsocalled as Hankinskiy, because here also was the way in Hanko. They are built simultaneously with the fortress walls of Dishan Qala in 1842 from pakhsa blocks. The main forces of the Russian troops, which conquered Khiva in 1873, entered the city through this gate. At the end of the nineteenth century, they were built of burnt bricks of square shape. Their shapes resemble monumental gate of the medieval towns of Khorezm. The massive cylindrical towers, connected by a wall with jagged battlements look very dignified. The width and length of the roadway gate, overlapped by domes, are 5 meters. Restoration of the gate was made in 1999.
