Light and Heavy Scale Ticket: Sometimes the Broker asks the driver to have light and heavy scale ticket before going to the shipper. In this case, the driver needs to go to the scale house and get scale ticket when empty/loaded. This service costs money, thus dispatcher should ask the broker to reimburse it.
ETA: Estimated Time of Arrival. The Broker asks the dispatcher about the ETA of the driver to the shipper/receiver. This will ensure that the delivery process is going well.
Double Blind/Blind Shipment: Sometimes Brokers gather some loads that are in different places and send them to one place. While doing this, they do many blind shipments where the shipper won’t know where the load is going. To get the load we need the destination that the load should have been going in case when this was a usual load. We need to get it from the Broker. Then the driver will tell the shipper about that destination and get the load, however, after getting the load, the driver should drive to the place where the rate con shows. Moreover, there is double blind shipment where both shipper and receiver don’t know about the origin of the load and destination where this load should go. In this case, the Broker will send the BOL for the driver to show at the receiver. Note: the driver must not use the BOL that is given by the shipper.
TOLL ROAD: USA has many roads where the driver needs to pay. Sometimes the driver needs to pay according to the weight sometimes it doesn’t matter. Knowing this sort of roads will help us to negotiate the price with the Broker. The following roads have higher fees: 76, 90, 95.
One-way Load: Load which can be delivered from point A to point B without backhaul.
Round trip Load: is where a driver moves a load to a point, reloads at that point, and returns with a load back to the original point of pickup. Round trip loads are usually priced at a discount since the driver does not incur any deadhead cost once he delivers
Bobtail / Power Only: A semi-truck is in “bobtail” mode when it does not have a trailer attached. Truck drivers often drive a bobtail truck when they are on their way to pick up their cargo at the beginning of a shift, or after dropping their cargo off at the end.
