Prude’s Family Files
Lawsuit Against City
Attorneys for the five children
of Daniel Prude, a Black man
who died after being restrained
by police during a mental-health
episode, announced a federal
lawsuit Monday against the city
of Rochester and at least six po-
lice officers, alleging wrongful
death and civil-rights violations.
The family claims in the law-
suit in U.S. District Court that
both the actions of the Roches-
ter police and an “attempted
cover-up” by the department
and city government violated Mr.
Prude’s constitutional rights, at-
torneys for the family said.
A grand jury in February de-
clined to bring criminal charges
against the officers.
City spokesperson Justin Roj,
when asked for comment Mon-
day, said he hadn’t been notified
of the lawsuit. He didn’t respond
later in the day after Prude fam-
ily attorneys outlined their
claims in a news conference.

Man Charged After
Boy Dies of Abuse
A 10-year-old boy was fatally
abused by his mother’s compan-
ion in Harlem, the New York Po-
lice Department said.
The mother’s boyfriend called
911 on Saturday from an apart-
ment in the St. Nicholas Houses,
Chief of Department Rodney
Harrison said Monday. When the
officers arrived, they found 10-
year-old Ayden Wolfe lying un-
conscious and unresponsive in
the living room. The boy was
taken to Harlem Hospital, where
he was pronounced dead.
Ryan Cato, 34, was arrested
late Sunday on charges of mur-
der and endangering the welfare
of a child, police said. It wasn’t
clear if he had an attorney.
Chief Harrison said Ayden’s
body was covered with bruises
both old and recent. He said the
boy died of “fatal child abuse
syndrome.”
