SUN YAT-SEN UNIVERSITY
Sun Yat-sen University, originally known as Guangdong University, was founded in 1924 by Dr. Sun Yat-sen (also called Sun Zhongshan), a great democratic revolutionary leader of the 20th century. The University is located in Guangdong Province, an area neighboring Hong Kong and Macao, which is at the forefront of China's reform and opening up.
Being one of the leading universities in the People's Republic of China, Sun Yat-sen University is a comprehensive multi-disciplinary university, including the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, technical sciences, medical sciences, pharmacology, and management science. At present, Sun Yat-sen University covers a total area of 6.17 square kilometers and has 4 campuses:
Guangzhou South Campus, Guangzhou North Campus, Guangzhou East Campus, and Zhuhai Campus.
History of development
In 1924, the University was founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen
In 1935, the Graduate School was set up and began to enroll students.
Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, Sun Yat-sen University was known as one of the China's key universities. It was among the first batch of institutions to award doctorate and master's degrees, and to establish post-doctoral research stations in the country.
In the 1950s, Sun Yat-sen University became a comprehensive university with liberal arts and sciences as its core disciplines.
In September 2000, the Zhuhai Campus of Sun Yat-sen University in Tang Jia Wan, Zhuhai City, was completed. This much-needed expansion laid a solid foundation for further advancement and development of the university.
On October 26th, 2001,Sun Yat-sen University and Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences were merged to form the new Sun Yat-sen University.
I n 2001,through an agreement("985" Project for year 2001-2003}, signed between the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Guangdong Province, Sun Yat-sen became one of the key nationally-supported universities.
In September 2004, Guangzhou East Campus was completed in Guangzhou University City, again creating additional facilities to further the university's development.
In 2005, the Ministry of Education and People's Government of Guangdong Province signed the second agreement("985" Project for year 2004-2008 ) to provide support for the further development of Sun Yak-sen University.

Guangzhou South Campus
The Guangzhou South Campus is located in Haizhu District, Guangzhou, and covers a total area of 1 .17 square kilometers. It mainly hosts disciplines in sciences and humanities.

The Guangzhou North Campus is located in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, and covers an area of 0.39 square kilometers. It is a campus mainly for disciplines in medical sciences.

Guangzhou East Campus
The Guangzhou East Campus is located at the north end of the Guangzhou University City in Xiaoguwei, Panyu, and covers an area of 1 .13 square kilometers. The Guangzhou University City is a major development made by the People's Government of Guangdong Province in an effort to implement the strategy of building Guangdong through science and education. The first batch of students started school there in September, 2004.

Zhuhai Campus
The Zhuhai Campus is located at Tang Jia Wan, Zhuhai City, and covers an area of 3.48 square kilometers. Freshmen and sophomores of some disciplines in liberal arts, natural sciences, and medical sciences are currently living and studying on campus with students from the School of Network Education and Continuing Education.

Lingnan (University) College
Lingnan (University) College( L(U)C ) was founded in December 1987 with the approval from the State Education Commission. The College has profound historical roots with Lingnan University, which was founded in 1888.The Board of Trustees of the College has been striving for alumni support from home and abroad in order to provide an excellent teaching and research environment at the College.
Having inherited the fine tradition of "Education for Service" from Lingnan University, the College places special emphasis on liberal arts education and strives to improve its teaching and research status and to attract international experts and scholars in Theoretical Economics, Applied Economics, Management Administration, and Managerial Science and Engineering. With increasing academic excellence and social influences, L(U)C has become a top ranking business school in China and is also internationally prominent.
Up until May 2006, L(U)C has established undergraduate and MBA student exchange programs with over 20 universities from North America, Europe and Asia, for studies abroad and international competitions. The College also has long-term co-operations with first tier schools and universities all over the world. It has launched collaborative programs with the Sloan School of Management, MIT, the Carlson School of Management, the University of Minnesota, the University of Lyon 3, and E.M. Lyon. These programs, known respectively as international MBA, EMBA, CHEMBA and French MBA programs, are recognized as high quality management courses in China. In April 2006, The Forbes (Chinese edition) released their annual research report stating L(U)C as "the most valuable business school in China". In addition, the International MBA Program of L(U)C ranks No. 3 in "the most valuable full-time MBA programs in China".

School of Asia-Pacific Studies
The School of Asia-Pacific Studies, founded in 2007, focuses on the teaching and research of the international relations and politics of the Asia-Pacific region. It represents the latest undertaking in a long and storied tradition of Asian history studies at Sun Yat-sen University. In the early 1950s, a Sun Yat-sen University research team headed by Professor Chen Xujing, a famous sociologist and historian, established the university's reputation as a leading source of innovative academic research in the field of Southeast Asia studies.
The School is proud to have an extraordinarily high-quality group of research and teaching staff. Professor Takeshi HAMASHITA, an internationally-honored scholar of the Asia-Pacific region, serves as Dean of the School and has dedicated himself to the establishment of a rigorous blue plan for cutting-edge research. Prominent members of the faculty include Professor Hong LIU, Chair and Director of the Centre for Chinese Studies and the Confucius Institute at the University of Manchester, who joins the School as a recent recipient of the prestigious Changjiang Eminent Scholar award. The School faculty consists of members from respected teaching and research entities of Sun Yat-sen University, including the Department of
International Relations, the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, the Institute of Taiwan Studies, the Institute of Hong Kong and Macau Studies, the Institute of Korean Studies and the Center for American Studies.

The School of Business, which was founded in 1985 as one of the earliest schools in China specializing in education and research in business and administration, has a well-extended reputation in the nation~ Since its establishment, the School has fully absorbed Chinese cultural tradition and academic heritage and has been strengthened and supported by the Ho's Educational Foundation, the Foundation of Henry Fok and the Peihua Foundation. The School now serves as an important base for educating high-quality professional managers and entrepreneurs.

Facilities
The three ultra-modern buildings of the School are located on the idyllic campus of Sun Yat-sen University. The School's research library has a collection of over 60,000 professional books with over 1,000 journals and has been connected to the Integrated Library Alliance System II. The Experimental Center for MIS, E-commerce Lab and Securities Simulation Lab are all equipped with advanced computers and software.

In order to educate global management personnel, great importance is attached to international exchanges & cooperation with the best overseas universities and business institutions. The School has established extensive cooperation with about 30 prestigious overseas business schools, such as Northwest University, Columbia University, Cornel University, California University, Oxford University, Calgary University, Queen's University, Bocconi University, Spain IE, Humboldt University, the Glion Hotel School and the Asian Institute of Management, etc. Every year the School sends 10 staff members to study abroad.
