Vertical Features of “Turkish House”
‘Traditional Turkish House’ is generally examined 
and evaluated through its main floor plan. In this 
study, we will focus on the third dimension of the 
traditional Turkish house besides its place in the 
universal vernacular architecture. It is observed 
that a corner of the rectangular scheme forms a 
transparent box starting from the floor to the roof. 
No surface of this box is covered with glass.
This transparent box as a natural component of 
the house integrates the house with the garden 
and the rest of settlement through the fluidity of 
open spaces. This box also provides passive 
climatization and supplies fresh air. It also gives 
space for functional arrangements such as, 
animal care, vegetable processing, baking and 
playgrounds.
With these features, the Turkish House is very 
close to the universal quests of the 20th Century 
Modern Architecture.
