Abstract. This article is devoted to the problems of distance education of English at universities. First
of all, the general technical and methodological problems of the implementation of distance learning are
highlighted. Also, some specific problems of studying foreign languages have been identified. A number of
problems, the solution of which is to attract distance learning using digital technologies are presented. The
article discusses the features of the organization of the educational process in a distance form. The main
problem in distance learning is the lack of direct contact with the teacher. This is due not only to technical
difficulties, but also methodological, such as the effective organization of group and individual work with
students, competent and efficient presentation of information material, and verification of its assimilation. The
author also gives ideas for a separate standardization of distance learning disciplines, taking into account the
specifics of educating using technical teaching aids.

A modern high-tech society provides everyone with free access to education, taking into account their
interests, abilities, needs, saving time and money, dictates the need to adapt to life in the conditions of high-
speed information technologies in order to prepare for active independent professional activity. Computer
technologies, Internet resources, digital devices, distance learning are increasingly used in the education
system and are designed to provide a solution to these problems. When implementing them, one should clearly
understand what didactic, psychological and pedagogical tasks can be solved with the help of new
technologies.
At this time, a fairly large number of problems have been formed related to distance teaching in
universities. These problems are an integral part of the teaching process and life in the university as a whole.
The fundamental difference between distance learning and full-time education lies in the form of presentation
of the material, the ways of interaction between the teacher and the student. The submission form is due to the
specifics of distance learning, the capabilities of the information environment, including the Internet. Many
students who work and study at the same time do not have enough time to study the necessary materials of
high quality, there is no opportunity to attend lectures and seminars, read additional literature and prepare for
exams in a timely manner.
