organization of the construction site and preparing construction materials on-site can cause high additional
costs. This was seen in the researches of Van der Linden, Janssens and Knapen in Belgium, which studied
two cases with rammed earth and compressed earth block constructions respectively [7, p.177].
4. Case studies. In order to look at the recent developments in the area of feasibility of wood and earth
structures following projects are being briefly researched for their characteristics, which are resulting from
the construction technique and technology based on the two materials. It is needed to say, of course, the
complete construction from wood or earth is not yet possible by neglecting such important material in our
built environment, which concrete is. However, building hybrid construction elements and structures from
wood and concrete, or earth and concrete should not be regarded as defect, but rather as a comprehensive
way of construction. Low impermeability, durability in high moisturized conditions and high structural
strength guarantee concrete the priority in constructions of foundations and building cores, which make up
the structural stability in timber-framed buildings built in high seismic activity zones.
In Table 1 five case studies are being documented with different criteria with the aim to grasp the up-
to-date wooden and earthen building technologies built and envisioned worldwide.
