INTRODUCTION
Under the guidance of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, special attention is paid to the formation of harmoniously developed, highly educated, modern thinking generation, able to take responsibility for the fate of the Homeland. Therefore, the task of education, the task of rising up a new generation who is capable of national renaissance will remain the prerogative of the state and constitute a priority. At present great importance is attached to the study and teaching of foreign languages.
The resolution of the President of Uzbekistan “On measures to further improvement of the system of foreign languages teaching” dated from 10 December 2012, the resolution of the Ministers’ Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan “About the Affirmation of the Education Standards on Foreign Languages in Education System” dated from 8 May 2013, the resolution № 4947 of the President of Uzbekistan “Strategies of Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Five Priority Directions for 2017-2021 years” dated from 7 February 2017 are being implemented as well. Persistent works on raising awareness of the public concerning the essence and significance of the resolution. Aiming to implement the resolution, some special people in the government are working on preparing and approving new teaching plans and programs taking into account introduction of foreign language teaching from the initial classes of the public schools, ensuring its execution are being carried out.
As an English language teacher, you’ve no doubt come across a wide variety of different language learning materials such as course textbooks, vocabulary lists, grammar exercises, flashcards, audio recording and language learning apps.
While they can be highly beneficial in language teaching with the right guidance of a trained EFL teacher, they can have some shortcomings.
As experienced language teacher and polyglot, Dr Gareth Popkins says; “Language textbooks (can be) boring and demotivating. They focus too much on dry grammar, impenetrable explanations, interminable exercises and dull texts.”
That’s why many language teachers choose to supplement their classroom materials with authentic, real-world language content that engages their students, gets them excited to learn English and allows them to further develop their language skills.
Today we’ll be taking a closer look at these authentic English language materials and discovering how they can benefit your students, where you can find them and how you can use Text Inspector to optimise their use in your EFL classroom.
With hundreds of thousands of words in the English language, teaching vocabulary can seem like a very daunting prospect. Remember though that the average native speaker uses around only five thousand words in everyday speech. Moreover, your students won't need to produce every word they learn, some they will just need to recognize. Selecting what to teach, based on frequency and usefulness to the needs of your particular students is therefore essential. Once you have chosen what to teach, the next important steps are to consider what students need to know about the items, and how you can teach them.
