PARTICIPLE II AS PART OF A COMPOUND VERBAL PREDICATE

In this function Participle II is found very seldom and is used after certain verbs in the passive voice. The most frequent verbs are:

e.g. The treasure was found hidden under an old oak tree.
Mr. Brown was constantly seen drunk in the middle of the afternoon.

PARTICIPLE II AS A PREDICATIVE
In this function Participle II denotes a state.

e.g. You seem surprised.
The door remained locked.
The audience was shocked.
Robert felt thoroughly disappointed.
Sarah looked perplexed and troubled.
