The Linux operating system
The Linux operating system (OT), like any other OT, is a key part of the operation of a modern computer. It was founded in 1991 by Linus Torvalds, then a student. It quickly spread among computer fans. Today, it is one of the fastest growing OTs. It is no longer just for “weird” computer fans, as big companies like IBM, Novell, SUN, which have a foothold in the information technology market, are investing millions in it.
Why is Linux getting so much attention? Why does Microsoft recognize Linux after the economic crisis amid the threats to its business?
First, the basis of Linux is similar to UNIX OT. UNIX OT is one of the first OTs and is the most technically robust and protected. But that is not the main reason. The main reason is that unlike others, such as Windows or UNIX, Linux does not belong to a single company or individual. its owner is everyone. All because of the GPL license, Linux is distributed under the same license terms. what makes this license, or rather an agreement, different from others? Under the terms of this license, the software is distributed (sold) along with the original code written in computer language. This means that anyone can make changes to it, but the changes must be open to everyone. Given that programmers use the Internet to work on Linux, is a potential Linux developer according to the capabilities of all internet users. It should also be noted that developed countries such as Germany and France are seriously considering ways to replace Windows OT with Linux in various fields. One of the reasons is that Microsoft, due to its monopolistic nature, puts forward favorable conditions, and in addition, errors and malfunctions are frequent.
In addition to computer engineers, the thousands of fans who have contributed to the development of Linux include users who report bugs and errors, users who help each other on many Internet forums, computer graphics artists, and manual writers for Linux. They also, of course, include translators. Because of them, Linux is the most widely translated OT. All of this is mostly done gratefully and voluntarily. Therefore, Linux is not only a technical but also a social phenomenon of our time.
Another unique result of the project is a tool that allows you to check the spelling of the text written in Uzbek. Nowadays, such an opportunity already exists in programs such as text editor, messaging and chat. There are more than 30,000 words in the Uzbek dictionary that make this convenient.
All work on the project is carried out in free time, free of charge and voluntarily. At the same time, the project does not have a sponsor, all costs are covered from personal pockets. All project results will be distributed on a GPL license basis. they can be downloaded from the project website or from various places where they are used.
Despite the fact that all this is done for pleasure by one or two "strange" people, there is no denying that the project has great potential. It is well known that specialists working in the field of information technology are Russian-speaking, as the Republic lacks book manuals on technology that meet modern standards. The language of computer communication is also Russian. Every year, the number of Russian speakers or those who know Russian is declining. Most of the young people who will replace us tomorrow do not know Russian at all. If nothing changes in this area, Uzbekistan will face a big problem, namely, the lack of qualified specialists in the field of computer use. The future cannot be imagined without a computer. Simply put, Vasya will have to run to his uncle.
