What syllables are there in English
There are six vowel sounds in the English alphabet, but they form more than twenty sounds, including diphthongs, separately and together. The reading of a vowel depends on the letters next to it and the type of syllable.
Open syllable
If the joint ends with a vowel (to-tal, ri-val, bi-ble, mo-tor), the joint is considered open. In this case, the vowel gives a long sound - that is, it is read as in the alphabet. Words that do not have the letter “E” also fall into this category. For example:
get [teɪk]
Pit [pi: t]
kite
nose [what]
cute [kju: t]
Some syllables also represent open syllables. For example, I, he, he and no, so go.
Closed joint
Closed syllable is the most common spelling unit of the English language; it makes up about 50% of the links in the text. The closed syllable ends with one or more consonants, in which case the vowel is read short.
There are many single-letter words of the closed type in English (cat, pin, chicken). If you add a suffix starting with a flour, the consonant in front of it doubles. This is done so as not to change the sound. For example:
shapka [hæt] - a hat
pin [pɪn] - fastened
hot [hɒt] - the hottest
red [red] - redness
cut [kʌt] - to cut
"Unli + r" syllable
The third type of syllable is the letter "r" after the vowel. The vowel makes a long sound and the "r" itself is not readable (in English).
car [kaː]
grass [hb]
girl [ɡɜːl]
form [fɔːm]
turn [tɜːn]
The double "r" does not affect the vowel sound. In this case, the syllable is read as closed. Comparison:
smile [smile] - play [smile]
jingalak [kəːl] - current [ˈkʌr (ə) nt]
port [pɔːt] - torrent [ˈtɒr (ə) nt]
"Unli + re" syllable
In this type of syllable, the letter "r" is also unreadable, and the vowel forms a diphthong.
dare [dee]
simply [mɪə]
hire [ˈhaɪə]
nucleus [kɔː]
dust [pjʊə]
"Undosh + le" syllable
Sometimes this syllable stands out - it only occurs at the end of a word. If there is only one consonant in front of -le, the syllable is read as open. If there are two consonants in front of -le, it is read as closed. Comparison:
table [ˈteɪbl] - dabble [dæbl], title [ɪtaɪtl] - small [ˈlɪtl]
bugle [bju: gl] - fight [ˈstrʌɡl], rifle [ˈraɪfl] - nose [ɪsnɪfl]
Not all consonants are found in combination - ... Here are the English ones:
-fble (bubble) -fle (rifle) -stle (whistle) -cle (cycle)
-gle (bugle) -tle (brittle) -tickle (salted) -kle (tinkle)
-zle (dazzling) -dle (curb) -pple (staple)

How to determine the number of syllables in an English word
According to the rules of distribution of curricula, the correct pronunciation of a word is determined in many ways (and this applies to all languages). After reading this article, everyone will master the rules of transfer and better understand the complexities of English in general.5
Speech can be broken into minimal pronounceable units into which sounds show a tendency to cluster or group. These smallest phonetic groups arc generally given the name of syllables. Being the smallest pronounceable units, syllables form morphemes, words and phrases. Each of these units is characterized by a certain syllabic structure. Thus a meaningful language unit phonetically may be considered from the point of view of syllable formation and syllable division.
The syllable is a complicated phenomenon and like a phoneme it can be studied on four levels - articulatory, acoustic, auditory and functional. The complexity of the phenomenon gave rise to many theories.
