The life cycle of silkworm
The silkworm is the larva of the Bombyx mori moth.
The life cycle of a silkworm consist of four stages: egg, larva, pupa and imago.:
Egg: Egg is the first stage of a silkworm`s life cycle. The female lays 300-400 eggs. Egg laying is completed in 1-24 hours. The female dies after 3-4 days after laying eggs. Eggs develop into larva in 10 or 12 days.
Larva: A silk moth passes five stages during the larva. The five stages are called instars. The instars are grey and the body consist of 12 segments
Pupa: Pupa or cocoon is the stage in which the larva spins silk.
Adult: After active metamorphosis, the pupa changes into adult imago.
The life cycle of silkworm completes in 45-50 days.
