Law rules have been necessary for centuries to enable people to live in society; every 
state has set a number of rules to provide for community regulation and has supported 
certain sanctions for compliance. Drinking is practically prohibited from the earliest 
times of Islam and discussed in detail in the doctrine of Islamic law.
In this study, this issue, which has an important place in the Islamic Law doctrine, has 
been discussed and how fines imposed on drinking have been found in practice. For this 
purpose, sherries registering Which is as reflection of the social, cultural and legal life 
of the Ottoman society was used. In addition, to better analyze the conditions and life of 
the period, the Ottoman Empire's social life, political and legal understanding and views 
of the fatwa metaphors exhibiting with concrete examples has been one of our reference 
sources since it provides information transfer between the various layers of society and 
the past and the future. In addition to these sources, the works of the Ottoman period in 
the legal process were also referred to as works of semi-official law. In this way, we have 
had the opportunity to see the reflection of the law rules and punishments that we read 
in books for years. This study, due to the excess of sherries registering, was prepared 
based on some sherries records firstly Üsküdar then Hasköy and Eyüp regions in XVI, 
XVII and XVIII centuries
The possible reasons for the differences between the punishments in given practice and 
the punishments imposed in the doctrine were investigated. The cases related to the 
subject are included in the thesis text, and in some cases in the footnote where deemed 
necessary.
