INTRODUCTION
Communication among people is unique and elaborated. One can easily say that it determines our lifestyle. Good communication skills give us many opportunities and success, especially in our times. So, the main source of human communication is the language which implements very responsible living function. Consequently, majority people are aware and feel the importance of knowing foreign languages in order to be competitive in modern communication environment. That is because we are living in a world of global collaboration, co-operation changing as rapidly as it has never had before. Thus, we need all ways of possibility to come into world society and to be abreast of events. On this occasion the English comes to scene as a golden key to integrate modern society as the means of international and intercultural communication. English has already obtained the status of “lingua franca” or simply saying standard language of global relationship. Since English is used progressively in various spheres, it is broadening both in usage manner and lexicon. The vocabulary is getting rich with new buzz words and terminologies as though majority significant breakthrough should be depicted in English. Thus, one can say that the usage of English is differs depending on circumstances and range of activity.
The social context in which the communication is taking place determines the modes of speech. When placed in different situations, people instinctively choose different kinds of words and structures to express their thoughts. The suitability or unsuitability of a word for each particular situation depends on its stylistic characteristics or, in other words, on the functional style it represents. Thus this course paper deals with stylistic differentiation of the vocabulary in Modern English.
Lexicology suggests many ways of classifying any vocabulary but for the purpose of stylistic analysis we may represent the whole word stock of English language as the domain divided into three major layers: the literary layer, the neutral layer and the colloquial layer.
Theme topicality. It is no news that any prepositional content – any «idea» – can be verbalized in several different ways. So, «May I offer you are chair?», Take a seat, please, «Sit down» – have the same proposition but differ in the manner of expression, which, in its turn, depends upon the situational conditions of the communication act. 70 percent of our lifetime is spent in various forms of communication activities – oral or written, so it is self evident how important it is for a philologist to know the mechanics of relations between the non-verbal, extra linguistic denotational essence of the communicative act and its verbal, linguistic presentation. That’s why I think to study the classification of the vocabulary is very important thing for the English teacher and students.
