Here are my suggestions for improved sentences: 
1. Mobile phones are widely used by people around the world. 
2. Prohibiting mobile phones in public places is not comparable (OR: cannot be compared) with the 
smoking ban. 
3. Firstly, when people talk aloud or forget to use vibration mode in public areas, it shows a lack of 
respect for other people's privacy. 
4. They go to these places to have a good time; for example, they play games on their smartphones.

5. The main reason to ban smoking in certain places is THAT passive smoking has a negative effect 
on public health, whereas mobile phones do not.

IELTS Writing Task 2: question types 
People often ask me about question types. If you don't know what the 4 types of question are, start by 
reading the lesson linked 
here
. 
Now look at the two questions below. A student wrote to me this week to ask whether they should be 
treated as "opinion" or "discussion" questions. 
1. Is this a positive or negative development? 
2. Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages? 
What do you think? Which of the four question categories (opinion, discussion, problem / solution, 
two-part question) do the above questions fit into? And can you find any previous lessons on this 
website that could help the student who asked me about this?
