Formative assessment is an assessment done during the instructional process for the purpose of improving teaching or learning

What makes formative assessment formative is that it is immediately used to make adjustments to help students learn the lesson better

1.DEFINITION

Formative assessment

— check for understanding along the way

— guide teacher desicion making about future instruction

— provide feedback to students so they can improve their performance

2.Why should we use formative assessment ?

— helps teacher identify the current state of learner's knowledge and skills

— create apropriate , lessons activities and grouping

— inform students about their progress to help them set goals.


3.Advantages and Disadvantages of formative assessment .


Advantages :

For students

offers increased feelings of confidence and control.

— encourage students to engage in more complex thinking and problem solving and to hold higher expectation for their own learning

— help students spend more time on chellenging tasks, develop an ability to assess their own work, and become effective evaluators of the work of their peers.

Disadvantage :

The disadvantage of formative assessments is that they can take time, more time than teachers might perceive that they have. To repeatedly check students' learning takes more time than to administer one test at the end of a lesson or unit
