The machine-building complex of Ukraine includes more than 20 independent 
industries, 58 sub-sectors, in which more than 11 thousand enterprises work, which 
employ more than 1.5 million people. In recent years, the trend of changes in certain 
areas of the machine-building complex looks positive (fig. 2), for example, the sale of 
computers, electronic and optical products demonstrates good dynamics – an increase 
of 11%; production of electrical equipment – 24%; production of machinery and 
equipment – 18%; production of motor vehicles – 46% [1].

However, domestic mechanical engineering also has a number of problems: 

using of outdated equipment and technologies in the industry, which leads to 
high maintenance costs; 

presence of interacting service systems of the industry, which are characterized 
by a high degree of obsolescence;

low investment attractiveness of Ukrainian machine-building enterprises, 
which leads to problems with financing, what creates difficulties for restructuring and 
developing programs to transform the development strategy; 

achievement of low indicators in the direction of production cooperation of 
industrial enterprises in the context of globalization of economic processes; 

lack of qualified personnel. 
It is necessary to approach the solution of these problems in a comprehensive 
manner, jointly both by the state and the enterprises of the machine-building complex, 
to focus on the following two main directions: 
– import substitution of components (Ukrainian manufacturers are dependent on 
foreign suppliers, it is important to develop their own technological links – from raw 
materials to finished products); 
– analysis of state export potential (promotion of brands for export). 
Analysis of existing practices and recent trends in the context of scientific and 
technical integration indicate that in the transformation of enterprise development, the 
key points are the results of the introduction of new high-tech technologies, their use 
in the technological process and, as a consequence, the technological transformation of 
production, in this regard, author propose to consider technological sustainability of 
enterprises. 
Sustainable development of machine-building enterprises of Ukraine in the 
current conditions is one of the priority areas of activity. To achieve a stable state, it is 
important to develop a mechanism that will allow to withstand the dynamically 
changing conditions, while being formed from the point of view of the latest trends in 
technological changes in the global economy. 
Promising directions in the field of sustainable development of machine-building 
enterprises: 

application of elements of the digital economy, these processes allow to use 
more efficient production methods. The programming of production processes based 
on digital technologies and a change in the structure of products contributes to a more

efficient use of both labor and other types of resources. Modern equipment is expensive 
and must be used most efficiently; 

existence of machine-building enterprises in the context of technological 
transformation. The importance of transformations in the technological process is 
increasing so much that it makes it possible to talk about a deep modification of the 
resource base. Technological modification of production systems will enable the 
enterprise to find new ways and solutions to eliminate emerging problems; 

