If the texture appears indistinct, too small, or overly patterned, adjust the scale. Go to the 
Edit tab and under Texture, change either length or width to a higher scale. For
 most small 
texture downloads from CG Textures.com, the appropriate scale number ranges from 8
f
to 24
f
or higher. Start with 8
f
and incrementally increase the texture size until it looks correct for 
its context. Unfortunately, this is not always the case, as can be seen in Fig. 9.16 countertop

. You will further assess the image scale during the adjust and 
assess process.

Swap Textures
If a texture does not look correct even after scaled or after being rendered, swap it out with a 
different version (Fig. 9.17). Simply select the texture with the Eye Dropper tool; in the Paint 
Bucket Edit menu, under Texture, click on Browse. Select a new texture to swap the current 
version with the new texture (Fig. 9.18).

Assess and Adjust
Assessing and adjusting textures is both an objective and a subjective process. Objectively, 
textures should possess particular characteristics. Subjective qualities can be assessed 
only by the modeler; only you know if the texture meets your exact needs. Here are some 
characteristics and qualities to assess and some recommended adjustments.
