2.1.3 Homework Task Eight
Regarding my own task as my option is communicative vocabulary I mainly focus on investigating vocabulary through communicative and interactive tasks, which promote real reason to interact and discover new dimensions of meaning and function of language units. My task planning is as following:
Preparation and Materials. I develop tasks to lead learners for independent working and student centered procedure, where I expect them to work collaboratively. Main criteria for my materials designing process is authenticity and meaningfulness of the tasks.
Pre-task. As it is called pre-stage of the lesson it serves to recall learners background knowledge and anticipate what might be new for them and create the opportunity to familiarize with new vocabulary, expected challenges in discovering topical vocabulary different contextual meanings. For that, matching activity or guessing games, story, video material, role play, simulation or other type of authentic source with ready context can be quite useful. Then I expose learners to suggest contextual meaning of new words and phrases in order to lead them to independent, autonomous work where can discover and practice with real life related tasks.
Task. Students are tasked with designing useful tips for a successful communication in terms of using kindness related vocabulary in two different cultural communities: for Uzbek culture and for European cultural context. Students are divided into small groups and work collaboratively. I get them to discuss and contribute at least one or two personal input to whole decision of the group.
Planning (10 minutes). Each pair rehearses presenting their tasks. The teacher walks around to see if they need any help and to see how they are working, teacher is only facilitator in the procedure.
Report (15 minutes). Class listens to presentations and then teacher let them choose one of the groups which they think more well organized, have more realistic and interesting elements in their comparison based work. Then I encourage learners to give feedback to each other, ask questions and give quick review about their presentation.
