Pizza (Italian: [ˈpittsa], Neapolitan: [ˈpittsə]) is a savory dish of Italian origin consisting of a usually round, flattened base of leavened wheat-based dough topped with tomatoes, cheese, and often various other ingredients (such as anchovies, mushrooms, onions, olives, pineapple, meat, etc.), which is then baked at a high temperature, traditionally in a wood-fired oven
Foods similar to pizza have been made since the Neolithic Age.Records of people adding other ingredients to bread to make it more flavorful can be found throughout ancient history. In the 6th century BC, the Persian soldiers of Achaemenid Empire during the rule King Darius I baked flatbreads with cheese and dates on top of their battle shields and the ancient Greeks supplemented their bread with oils, herbs, and cheese.
Modern pizza evolved from similar flatbread dishes in Naples, Italy, in the 18th or early 19th century. Prior to that time, flatbread was often topped with ingredients such as garlic, salt, lard, and cheese. It is uncertain when tomatoes were first added and there are many conflicting claims.
After its invention in the 18th century in Naples (Italy) – over time, the pizza has spread worldwide and its topping has changed. Thus, the ingredients and styles have adapted to the particular region and the taste of the people there. The list is updated regularly and currently contains 687 types of pizzas. Every year more than 30 billion pizzas are eaten worldwide. This makes pizza the most popular dish in the world. Fun fact: The most pizzas per head are eaten in Norway, followed by Germany.
The Basic Ingredients of Pizza
Since the moment when Raffaele Esposito made his historic pizza Margherita in 1984, the basic structure of pizza became fixed. All the future variation of pizzas has been made with four distinct ingredients -the crust, the sauce, cheese and topping.
HOW TO MAKE PIZZA
materials needed:
dough (enough to make at least a small circle)
cheese (as much as you want)
pepperoni (or any other toppings you want)
pizza sauce
pizza stone (for oven)
oven
Step 1: Getting Started
Start with a medium bowl that's been lightly coated with olive oil. Add warm water (about 110 degrees F), dry yeast and sugar.
Step 2: Make a Well in the Center of the Dough
In the bowl containing the flour and salt, make a well in the center and add the yeast.
Step 3: Knead the Dough
When the dough starts to come together, get in there with your hands and knead it for a few minutes on a lightly floured board. Use the heel of your hand to push the dough down and forward. Give it a few turns. You're done when the dough is a little tacky.
Step 4: Cover the Dough in Plastic Wrap
Place the kneaded dough into the oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm spot until it doubles in size.
Step 5: Check to See If the Dough Is Done
If the dough leaves an indentation when poked, it's ready.
Step 6: Divide the Dough
Once the dough has risen properly, use a knife to divide it.Form into balls for individual pizzas, and place on a plate. Cover with a damp cloth. Let the balls of dough rest until you poke them and see an indentation.
Step 7: Shape the Dough
Sprinkle a pizza pan with a little semolina for good separation and a nutty crunch. Place a ball of dough in the center of the pan and spread it out, using a rolling pin or your hands. Spin it. Pull the dough to the edges of the pan to thin out the center. Add some more semolina for better separation. Make sure the thickness is even.
Step 8: Top the Pizza and Bake
Top the spread dough with your favorite ingredients and bake in a 500-degree F oven for approximately 10 minutes. Perfect pizza every time.
