carry on, carry on with
Sergeant Higgins comes into the room and all the men stop everything in
order to salute him. 'Carry on!' he says. And the men continue with their
work.
Here,
on
means 'continue' (
go on
, for example). You carry a project, you
take responsibility for it. So carry on means to continue the work.
The difference between carry on and go on is that carry on is an invitation
to keep working, while
go on
is an invitation to keep talking, or moving.
Two-word verb without an object

For example
'Right, men,' said Sergeant Higgins. 'Carry on with your work.'
Three-word verb

This is the idea of developing something, of producing something
out
in the
real world, out there. To carry out a project means to finish it. It means
that you have something to show.
Separable two-word verb

catch

The basic idea of catch is to take, or to capture, something that is moving.
You can catch a ball flying through the air. (but not a ball that is lying on
the ground)
We were late, so we had to catch the afternoon train instead of the
morning one.
Also, if we are unlucky we can catch a cold or flu or even something
worse. Sometimes, when we want to be rude about someone who is
perhaps not very quick, we say, 'He's too slow to catch a cold.'
