give off

We say
off
for the idea 'away from the point' or 'away from here'. Some
chemicals, like ammonia, give off a really interesting intense smell. If you
don't believe me, try it for yourself. A burning rubber tyre dump gives off
thick black smoke.
Separable two-word verb
but we rarely use it with only a pronoun. Usually, the word order is ‘GIVE
OFF something’. So no problem.
give out
My granny lived till she was 94 years old, but then her heart gave out.

your last breath. You breathe no
more. You are dead.
Sometimes, it is less dramatic,
