Pickwick Papers – 1836
Pickwick Papers, also known as the Pickwick Club post-death papers, was Charles Dickens ’first novel.
Chapman & Hall published it in monthly installments from March 1836 to November 1837.
In the comedy Pickwick Papers, Dickens worked on a very serious topic about the injustice of the justice system.
Oliver Twist – 1837
Charles Dickens’s second novel was Oliver Twist. The first edition had a longer title, Oliver Twist; or, the development of the Parish boy.
Originally published in monthly installments beginning in February 1837 and ending in April 1839.
Dickens named the character Fegin in honor of his colleague Bob Fegin, whom he met while working at the young Charles Dickens strike factory.
Nicholas Niklebi – 1838
The first part of Nicholas Nickleby was published on March 31, 1838, and the last part on October 1, 1839.
Dickens's mother, Elizabeth Dickens, was a role model for Mrs. Nickleby, who was always confused. Luckily for Charles, he didn’t recognize himself in character [6; 34-113].
In fact, he asked someone, "Did he really believe in the existence of such a woman?" he asked. Old Curiosity Shop - 1840s.
The Old Curiosity Shop periodical was published in parts at Master Humphrey’s Clock. The first part was published in April 1840, and the last in February 1841.
Dickens was severely injured in the death of the book’s protagonist, Little Nell. As he wrote the novel, he felt as if he were experiencing the death of one of his children. It also brought back painful memories of the death of her mother-in-law, Mary Hogart.
Barnaby Rudge – 1841.
Barnaby Rudge was published in parts from February to November 1841. He appeared in Master Humphrey's Clock magazine.
The historical novel takes place during the Gordon Uprising of 1780.
Martin Chuzzlewit – 1843.
Martin Chuzzlewit was first published by Chapman & Hall in January 1843 and published in parts until July 1844.
The novel was written in 1842 after Dickens traveled to America. The trip left a very unpleasant impression on the United States in Dickens.
Dombey and son – 1846.
Dombey and Son was first published in 1846 and published in parts until 1848.
Dickens read the first part of Dombey to some of his friends. It went very well and gave Dickens the idea of making public readings.
David Copperfield – 1849
David Copperfield, Dickens ’eighth novel, was first published as a series. The first part was published in May 1849. The last part was published in November 1850.
David Copperfield held a special place in Dickens' heart. In the preface to the 1867 edition, Dickens wrote: “Like many loving parents, I have a beloved child in my heart. And his name is David Copperfield” [16; 84-91].
Bad House – 1852
Bleak House was published in parts from March 1852 to September 1853.
This novel is distinguished by the fact that it is the only work of the protagonist who dies as a result of the spontaneous combustion of classical literature.
Hard times – 1854.
The novel first appeared in Dickens' House Words weekly magazine. The Hard Times began in April 1854 and was published in parts until August 1854.
Difficult Times” is indifferent to utilitarianism. This absurd move is largely based on statistics, rules and regulations.
Little Dorrit – 1855
Little Dorrit was published in parts from December 1855 to June 1857.
Debtors Prison in Marshall plays a big role in Little Dorrit.
Very few people knew that Dickens’s father was sent to Marshall for three months. The Tale of the Two Cities – 1859.
The first chapters of The Tale of Two Cities were published in April 1859. The last chapter was published in November of that year.
The play "Frozen Depth" was the inspiration for "The Tale of Two Cities". Not only did the game give Dickens the idea of a “Fairy Tale of Two Cities,” but it also made a lasting change in Dickens ’life in the person of Ellen Ternan.
Great hopes – 1860
Great Hopes” was originally founded by Charles Dickens and was published in a weekly periodical throughout the year that belonged to him.
There was a nine-month payment that lasted from December 1860 to August 1861.
In the novel, Pip dreams of becoming a gentleman like Dickens himself. However, Pip realizes that there is more to life than wealth and status [17; 19-27].
Our mutual friend is 1864.
It is the last novel that our mutual friend Charles Dickens finished before his death.
An interesting feature of the novel is that it focuses on the “powder” business.
The Secret of Edwin Drood – 1870
"The Secret of Edwin Drood" was the fifteenth novel by Charles Dickens. Dickens had finished half of the book when he died.
