Front Office Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the front office department relate to the activities just
described. Assigned personnel must ensure that the activities are carried out consis-
tently and effectively in a manner that meets established performance standards.
Let’s look at the most general front office responsibilities.

Managing the property management system. The front office manager maintains
the property management system (PMS), which is the computerized system
used by the hotel to manage room revenue, room rates, reservations and room
assignments, guest histories, and accounting information. As well, the PMS
performs many other guest service and management information-related func-
tions. Essentially, it records who comes to the hotel, what they spend while
they are there, and how (and what) they pay when they leave.
